Guys with hot water heat

OK old house old radiators all plumbed in with a new boiler 2 years ago by a heating company,, so they know whats going on,, Anyway the radiator up stairs will not get hot,, yes I opened the valve to let air out,, and all I get out is water no air shut all water off and drained the rad till all water was out left the valve open hoping that any air trapped in the system would be pushed out the air release valve,,, NFG ,, I must have run 15 gallons of water out of the system and I still cant get it hot,,, anybody have any ideas besides a couple sticks of powder?

Just a guess but maybe the circulation pump is getting weak and can't push the water all the way upstairs.

skeet's, Is the water at least warm?
I keep mine at 160deg, for the hot water. than when it get's real cold and stays there I turn it to factory setting 170.
Maybe, temp-setting is down low enough, its cooling off. Set it higher, than turn the lower rads down an see if it get's warmer up stars................

How old are the pipes? and if you were to "purge" the radiator upstairs with the circulation pump on.....what rate to you have flow wise? 5 gallon bucket using a second hand.......

15 gallons......that might be the pipe capacity .....run more and see if the heat is increasing , even a little bit, drop a thermometer in the bucket and see if after 25 gallons it has increased EVEN a little !

Is the upstairs on its own loop?

Yep its on its own loop,, and thats the only shut off valve in the system ,, all the other radiator shut off valves are so old and stuck in the open position so I cant shut them off,, I tried,,, I figured that if I shut everything off and then opened the drain on the boiler and left the single loop open I might be able to get the air our by running in line pressure . I figured that with one end open something would flush out,,,, good idea but I cant shut the other 2 zones off

IF its air stuck in that loop, a shutoff and purge valve should be installed for that loop. This way you can force water/air through the loop.

But you said third floor, it can also be low pressure in the system. You should have 18-20psi water pressure for three floors. 12-18 for two floors.

Check your boiler and see - you should have a pressure/temp gauge. Temp on the bottom. PSI on the top

It sounds like the supply side to the radiator is plugged, and the water you are venting is all coming back up the return line. If the shutoff valve is in the supply side maybe it is broken and not opening.
