I have the LA1154 loader on my new M7060HD but foresee using the tractor a lot without the loader attached.

I do not have a need for a bucket, as my son has one to use around here with his M6 and track loader.

On order is the SGC1572 grapple, and I would like an experienced opinion / advice on whether the grapple is a practical alternative to a bucket for removing the loader from the 7060.

Thanks very much

Welcome and congratulations on a great tractor!

I have an M6060 with the LA1154 loader, and the loader has been off the tractor 95% of the time over the past three years. I just put it back on a couple of weeks ago but will be taking it off for a discing job this weekend. I run front weights when the loader is off and will be putting them back on in a couple of days. I ordered a piece of 5/8" thick plate that I'll weld to the front brush guard so that I can have the front weight bracket on the tractor along with the brush guard.

If I understand your question correctly, you're asking if you can use the grapple when it's on the ground to manipulate the loader arms to align to the tractor. If that's your question then the answer is absolutely yes. I left the loader off the M6060 for months with it supported by the grapple and stand. It was/is no trouble to remove or install.

Here's my LA1154 with EA grapple hanging out with some elk.

Yes, but its ability to lift the tractor's front wheels off the ground for changing it out is my main concern.

Is your grapple shaped similar to this, what EA calls a Root Rake Grapple, or is it what they call a Root Grapple with more of an extended bucket-type profile?
Do you think it would make any difference?

For changing it out? Changing what out? Changing out the front wheels/tires?

I have an EA Wicked 60 root rake grapple.

Sorry, I probably misinterpreted the loader manual's instructions for removing (changing out) the loader from the tractor.
It says to "lift the weight off the front wheels with the bucket".
That doesn't necessarily mean to lift them off the ground, does it?

I never took the loader off my dad's Massey Ferguson 481, so... not experienced.
And I've already told my son, who is experienced with buckets, to stand by for my first attempt.

Your grapple has the same profile as mine will have, so I'm confident now that it doesn't have to be a bucket.

Thanks so much.

The loader has a stand that swings down. You simply tilt the bucket or grapple to pivot the loader about the stand and to adjust the position of the connection points at the tractor end of the loader. You don't take any weight off the front wheels.

1. Raise the loader
2. Lower the stand
3. Lower the loader so that the stand is on the ground
4. Tilt the bucket or grapple to take the weight off the pins where the loader connects to the tractor
5. Remove the pins
6. Back up a few inches until the loader arms are clear of the connection points on the tractor
7. Shut off tractor and disconnect the four hose connections and two 3rd function hoses if present
8. Start tractor and back away
