G2160 electrical problem

G2160 direct shoot mower. Battery has been weak but I was holding on as long as possible. Five years old. Cranked this morning and started mowing. Mower hesitated then dieded a couple of times But started right up. I mowed for about 25 minutes before it hesitated and died for good. couldnt get any lights on disk ect. Cleaned battery post got with switch on and pump runs, glow plugs heat up as normal. Turn key to start and everything goes dead. I tried this a few times with a space minutes between. Always the same, it goes dead when I try to start. i cannot get anything to happen when I jump the starter dead. Decided to elementary the battery and went to Wally World. New battery does same thing. Now the shade has migrated and it’s in the sun.

when the old battery was on it, after I tried to start and everything went deed I could hear something whining in the battery compartment but couldn’t identify the source. It spun down after a few seconds. Suggestions on what to check?

remove battery from machine ,place on garage floor.
use battery jumper cables and connect battery +ve to starter 'run' post (NOT the cable from battery ), -ve to ground and 'touch' -ve jumper to -1ve post. some sparks will fly and starter should spin .

The best thing to do when it has electrical problems is just sell it to somebody that you don’t like and get a new one.

Got it. Kinda. The positive battery cable had a lot of rust and crud wire terminal clamp. Was getting 10 volts out. Cleaned wire and clamp and it Cranked fine. That allowed me to continue mowing and figure out that I have a safe switch that’s going out. mowing along and hit a bump the engine dies unless i disengage the mower fast. I can work the engage lever down and itll try to die, back off and try again. After a few times I can get it going again. I tied off the injector pump lever so it couldn’t kill it and finished mowin. Noe to find the faulty switch. .

yes, probably got a switch going bad-or a connection issue somewhere.

also the EPS unit is known for trouble, but if it's working-and not steering left by itself all the time, it's probably fine.
