Yup, at least on mine they do. I clean them a couple times a season when I sharpen the blades so they don't get quite that pack up. Depends on how much you have to mow and what type of grass / terrain you have. Make sure you clean the radiator and screen if you have one also. I blow them out every time I mow, helps prevent overheating.

Hello Everyone,
It seems my dust covers for the mower spindles get filled with dust and grass. Is this normal?
Looks like you are over greasing a bit and the spindle vents to the dust cover, filling it. Then grass sticks to it. Otherwise completely normal.

Yep, normal.

Different cover, but I took the pulley covers off my mower years ago.

We don't have any youngsters around, so figured it was okay to do.
