N.Y,
I wish I could laugh at this one.

Our cost for electricity has gone up 200%+ in 18 months.

This is what I get for it…..estimated restoration is 2130 tomorrow. (About 24 hours out) EDIT - - revised to 0045 tomorrow now.

View attachment 150812

We were out last week for a few hours too.

Getting to be a normal occurrence…..

Note - - I think I'll be changing motor oil to Rotella T6 5w-40 next change.....has a 10w-30 synthetic in it now....
Same with us. I'm playing with solar backup now that's quiet and fuel free. Have 15kw worth of batteries that will run basics for several days plugged into the old generator plug. I can't believe the recent rate increases. Just jumped another couple cents a KWH after smart meters were installed. We were told most of the outages are due to old equipment trying to balance overloaded grids.

gee with all they free energy aka solar and winds, rates SHOULD be going DOWN, not up !!!!:(
Nope, the opposite is the case. The more people install solar or wind power the higher the electricity cost goes. Reason being is that the electricity provider still has to provide 100% capacity for the nights when it is calm. Hence all they save is the fuel. Installation cost, servicing, wages etc. stay but they sell less electricity so the cost per kWh goes up.

Here in Ireland they keep the gas turbines going, basically burning fuel to heat sea water, just to keep the system going because it would take over an hour to get back to maximum efficiency.

But this is not really a daily chuckle ...

+1.

I actually just ran into another from that era Thursday night. Took the wife to dinner after the car show here in the Lehigh Valley. Sat at the bar across from Larry Holmes.

As he passed by the salad bar, I said to him "Rock on champ". He gave me the thumbs up and a nod.

Funny thing is that there were only a few of us in the restaurant that recognized him....Kids these days.

So after landing my new job as a Walmart greeter, a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day.
About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance. I said pleasantly, "Good morning and welcome to Walmart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?'
The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, "Hell no, they aren't twins. The oldest one is 9, and the other one is 7. Why the hell would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?"
So I replied, "I'm neither blind nor stupid, ma'am. I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Walmart."
My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work.

An old couple were sitting on the porch one afternoon rocking in their rocking chairs. All the sudden the old man reaches over and slaps his wife.
She says, "Well what was that for?"
He says, "Thats for 40 years of rotten sex!"
She doesn't reply and they start rocking again.
All the sudden the old lady reaches up and slaps her husband.
He says, "Well what was that for?"
She says, "That's for knowing the difference!"

A man joins a soccer team and his new teammates inform him, "At your first team dinner as the new guy, you will have to give us a talk about sex." The evening arrives and he gives a detailed, humorous account of his sex life. When he got home, his wife asked how the evening went and not wanting to lie, but also not wanting to explain exactly what happened, he said, "Oh, I had to make a talk about yachting," his wife thought this a little peculiar but said nothing more and went to sleep. The next day she bumped into one of his new teammates at the supermarket and asked, "I heard my husband had to make a speech last night. How did it go?" His mate said smiling, 'Oh, it was excellent! Your husband is clearly very experienced!." The wife looked confused and replied to his mate, "Strange, he has only done it twice and the second time he was sick."
