I'm not a gun guy, but I think "shells" is more reserved for shotgun ammunition, or am I wrong? 9mm ammo is probably mostly called "rounds", I think.
I could be wrong, though.

Clips (have several for my M1), magazines……., rounds, shells………somewhat interchangeable terms….still amusing.

I did that Friday night at Home Depot in the Christmas section

Trust me, no expert anymore but I was very much into guns years ago.

I referred to loaded rifle rimfire, centerfire as well as shotgun shells all as “shells” when loaded.

May not have been technically correct, but it’s what I used.

I referred to spent centerfire rifle “shell” brass as “brass,” as I was into reloading.

A spent shotgun shell was still a “shell.” Same with a spent rimfire. I guess because I didn’t reload them.

Once the rifle “brass” was re-loaded with a primer, powder, and bullet again, it became a shell…. I tried to have about 500 loaded shells prior to each woodchuck season….

Might have just been my background/upbringing.

You often see the terms rounds, cartridges, and bullets (bullets not correct IMO), etc. I think it’s a matter of what you’re accustomed to.

I have heard pop, soda, and soda pop. And a South African called it a fizzy.

I got into an argument in Kansas City, MO with a waiter back in the early 90's.

I asked for "Coke"

Waiter said "What kind????"

I replied "A coke!!!"

He asked again "what kind????"

We went back and forth a couple times before I lost my cool and said.

I'm not sure what your issue is. But I would really like a coke!!! You know..... Cola.... the opposite of Pepsi!!!!

Do you know that that flipping dude had the stones to ask "What kind????" Again

I got really descriptive this time, then he clarified and asked "you know, coke, sprite, diet, etc....."

I lost it.... I looked at him and said "Dude.... can you bring me a cola.... please!!!! I don't care who produces it!!!!"

After he left, the lady at the next table spoke to me and said "Apparently they call soda (coke) around here, and get really confused when you want coke!!!!"
