i'm looking to set the valves on my older D 1105 Kubota engine. Which end of the motor is cylinder number one?

Which valves are intake and which ones are exhaust? kinda hard to tell looking at the outside.

and what is the cold valve lash? I have .006" intake .007" exhaust... but other sources say different.

Thanks

Intakes are always bigger in diameter than exhaust

Cylinder #1 typically is near flywheel

your specs for lash are spot on

Thank you. As to which valves are intake, I cannot see the valve itself. I assumed that starting at the front (water pump end) the first valved is intake, then every other one after that based on where they are to the exhaust ports I stuck a finger in each exhaust port which pretty much confirmed this.

Im still shocked that i couldnt find a diagram anywhere! I set the valves using the EOIC methos

exhaust opening, adjust intake, intake closing, adjust exhaust

I THINk i got it right! hopefully each one was on base circle!

I don't think that's correct. At least on my D1703? no. 1 is at the gear case, on the water pump/fan end. I think the BX's have the engine turned around, but no. 1 is still at the gear case end.

that brings up the other question, if I rotate the engine clockwise (at the pulley, normal direction) then when the exh starts to open, the intake is ready to adjust. and when the intake closes, thats when to do the exhaust valve... EOIC... so it doesnt matter what is cyl 1, just follow that and it should be right... I hope anyway!

The number 1 cylinder is always at the gear case end of the engine, no matter which direction the engine is mounted or what color it is painted.

To determine which valves are Intake and which are Exhaust, look straight down at the top of the engine. You will see that the intake manifold runners are further forward than the exhaust manifold runners. This tells us the intake valves are forward of the exhaust valves.

Any time you have a question, ask before taking action. It saves time and money.
