Simple question: When do you check fluids, especially hydraulic? When the machine is cold or warmed up and why?

I always check my B2650 when cold to get a true reading.

Always cold unless specified by the manufacturer, level surface, bucket on ground, backhoe stowed, stabilisers up/stowed, or 3pt on ground. Don't be too concerned about the level being a bit under or over, attachments/implements will vary it a bit, but you are looking for consistency.
When cold, before starting, no aeration or expansion of fluid.YMMV

Thanks for confirming that, so far so good, less than 20 hours from my 50hr service, wanted to make sure I was looking at it the right way. Ready to do some brush hogging to put a few more hours on. Really want to do the 50 before the snow flies, I like to go into winter with all my machines/vehicles serviced and ready to go.

Once you get 25 or 30 hrs on it you can change it. By then it will have enough hrs that everything has messed together especially if you've actually been working the tractor.

I don't blame you for wanting to beat winter. Laying under one in the cold sux.

In the mid 30 hours now so will definitely service before the snow flies. I have a tendency to break things when it gets cold. Thanks for the input, wondered if 50 hours was a magic number or just close would do.
