How do you change a split shift boot on a B7100? I can’t see how shift knob comes off. So, how do you get the thing on the shift rod?

The shift knob does come off. Probably just pressed on so try heating it with a hair dryer. You can also use an open end wrench that fits over the shaft and catches the bottom of the knob. Tap the bottom of the wrench with a hammer.

Bought the boot, used an old open end V wrench, tapped it cold with no results. Used a small heat gun, and it popped right off. Replaced boot, tapped knob head on with hammer and bee-lined in to thank you for your advice.

I‘m original owner of my 1974 B7100D and I was a bit worried over this simple task. You gave me confidence … Thank you!!

Glad that my post helped you get the task done!

At least you knew enough to not just attack it and hope that it worked out!
