If this was an old chevy starter I would know exactly what was wrong and could fix it. Turns out it's the same thing almost.
This is on my RTV. Got down there looking and see this.

If that looks like the exhaust pipe is broken that's because the exhaust pipe is broken. Didn't get a pic before I removed the pipe and muffler.
Well, removed the starter, pulled the solenoid cover and found the smoking gun.

Checking continuity between the big posts. It was intermittent. Cleaned the contacts and good to go.

Parts on order for the starter.
While welding the exhaust pipe my Harbor freight welder harbor freighted on me so I'll have to figure that out.
Pictures out of sequence.

Looks like a two for one and you’ve got it handled. Good deal. Keep up the good work.

So, I'm a bit confused. The RTV wouldn't start and you found a broken weld at the exhaust pipe. It was hanging down and caused a short.

So, the broken exhaust pipe shorted out the starter?

Of course, you can just go to your local HF to get parts.....not! :(

No, no, no the broken exhaust pipe cause the starter to fail because it overheated! ;)

The starter didn't fail, the contacts in the picture above were pitted, not allowing juice to get through to the starter motor. Cleaned them up and it's working, hopefully till the parts kit gets here. Running it with limited use until I can get the pipe welded. I'll get my gas bottle filled for my MIG tomorrow.

Finishing up the job here. Tailpipe back on. I know, my welds look like a mud fence.

While I'm dirty lets do an oil and filter change. These skid plates do a good job of collecting dirt.

Three Kubota filters, one made in China, one made in Malaysia and one made in Indonesia. Since they were in a Kubota box I'm sure they're top notch.
