I replaced both inter and outer filters today on my M5140 pushed them into the housing, But when I place the end cap on it took a lot of force with the 3 over center latches. Should I have used silicone on the rubberized ends of the filter so they would slide home. Or is this normal for the Kubota M5140 a real snug fit. Thanks

To be sure to be sure, measure the old verses the new. No idea if this is the case but some filters have a small divot in them to line up with the housing. The whole thing is worth a second look just in case something isn't right and you suck in a gut load of dirt.

Called Dealership spoke to shop foreman (seems any mechanic answer) as never the same guy. I asked it they lube the rubberized gasket ends with anything ? He said no Thats how they fit. I may take it apart and use a little soapy water on it and see it it slides in easier. It just seems to me that I had to place way to much force to snap the exterior housing into place.

I use WIX filters and on my L4600 to install the cover it is tight. I clean my outer filter every 10 hours when I grease my loader, check oil, top off with fuel, etc. It is tight and when I push on the clips they SNAP in place. I just ensure when I install the inner filter the first time it is pushed all the way in and the outer also then I go with it. I use no soap or silicone to assist.

I understand your concern as I had a similar question.

So far no problems and my ExMark mower uses the same inner and outer filters and the cap is tight on it as well.
