I can pick up 245dt for the ride there. I have to winch it up on the trailer. Flat rear tires, water in engine. But it's 4x4 is the drivetrain the same as a 185dt? Figured I would ask. No mater what I am going on sat. To pick it up. It may be a good deal or a boat anchor.

Re: 245dt ,185f major differences

So I have been looking on line and it seems they are from the same family, besides the engine.

I am not sure the drive train is the same, they both have a hi/lo x 4 gears, giving 8 forward and 2 rev.

The water in the engine, from being outside or overheated? Or do you know?

Sounds like a good ol fashion fixer-upper, if the engine is not bad.

Shoot some pictures up when you get it!;)

It does look like they are the same drive train parts between a L185DT and a L245DT.
One thing that might run differently is the propeller shaft as the L185 might be shorter.

What I was told was the freeze plug came out and filled the engine with water (coolant) and the engine made noise. They had it diagnosed at there house ,they wanted a ton of cash to fix it so they pushed if out back and there it sits.

Yes the plug is behind the gear case cover (aka timing cover). ;)

It's a very easy fix, and should have been cheap.

Thanks for that info, I guess they were charging to much or they thought it was to much. After I get it home I will put a charged battery in it. To see if it will turn over. That would be a plus.

Well I came home without it. Waste of time and fuel. The people thought since I wanted it it was worth some money. $1400. Let's see where to start.

Head off cylinders rusted solid, all 4 tires flat and off the rims. Rear tires not on the tractor, tractor on blocks. Trees growing all around it ,it's been there for quite some time. Not worth it, disappointed yep, but there will be others. Oh yea no picture taking allowed?

Shooter56, it sounds like the smartest thing you did was leave...without it!!

You had a mental picture of what it might be based on what you were told. But when you see the condition of what you'd have to do to make it a running tractor...unless there were a couple of parts you needed for another tractor it would only be worth what those used part would cost.

Yep, there will be others.
