A while back got a p0087 code at 200 hours. Cleaned the water seperator and did an air bleed. Ran fine for a day, then shut down on me. When key is on I didn't get the clicking noise prior to starting. Parts sold me a new lift pump and filter. Ran for an hour or so and shut down again.

Still not getting cliicking noise prior to starting. It will crank over and fuel is coming out of bleed valve, but will not start. Spoke with service and he said it souds like the fuel shutoff solenoid. Well I can't find such a thing on this model in the WSM. At a loss?????

I am not knowledgeable on your series of tractor but do know there is no engine stop solenoid on it.

I have attached the page from the L series diagnostic codes manual.

It appears like the engine computer has detected a too high fuel pressure and initialed a shutdown.

The limp home action involves engine shutdown in 180 seconds so it must be potentially damaging

Unlike cars and pickups, the computer and software to diagnose conditions on Kubota's and other modern tractors is not available to anyone.

Any chance he might be referring to the SCV?

Scv was also the closest thing that I could find. It's looking like I may be taking it in.
Feel pretty good about the fuel that’s been going into this tank?

Given the costs of the various parts in a common rail system, it would be worth the money and aggravation of hauling it so the dealer could run the computer diagnostics on it. If you do, please let us know what you learn.

I agree with sheepfarmer on taking it in, but I am curious about which item in that diagram they sold you as the lift pump. The lack of clicking noise is certainly a clue, which will have me out back at some point looking at my 3301 for the wiring going to that (#3 in the pic?) item.

Took a quick look before I went off to work for where the clicking comes from:

If that’s the case, here’s the wiring:

Item 3 is the lift pump they sold me. I put a test light to the wire going to it and no power with any key position. All fuses checked out ok.

The fuel train has a 5 year warranty which would make it worth hauling for the diagnostics.

when you get that code, the rail pressure sensor sensed fuel pressure higher than somewhere around 29,500 psi

at that point, the rail pressure sensor is damaged and needs to be replaced. It is part of the fuel rail assembly and the rail assembly is not an inexpensive part.

now the question is, why did it get high???

there is a suction control valve on the supply pump assembly that may have an issue. Or a stuck closed injector (inJUNKtor). Lot of reasons.

Kubota has published some good documentation that addresses this kinda stuff with the common rail engines, and it's only available to dealers. Keep in mind that tractors have a 5 year emissions warranty, and you might have some coverage left. Worth calling the dealer about.

now that's out of the way.....

if you ain't getting no power to the lift pump, follow your diagram and see where the wire goes. Thru a fuse, but more importantly to the ecu. There is a possibility of a failed ecu, broken wire, corroded ecu connector, harness issue, fuse, fuse block, relay(s), can, etc.

Trust me, unless you just like spending (a lot of) money on throwing parts at it, let the dealer look at it and make sure to reiterate the emissions warranty.

Plan is to load it up Friday morning and drop it off at the dealership. Hopefully it's all covered. Will update when I hear back from them. Thanks all for the feedback.

Lugbolt Curious, what do you do when you are past the warranty? Punt? With those complexities, think I'd be trading in every 4 years or as close to warranty term limits as possible.

Those things are scary.

most of them are still in warranty so I can't say. 5 years on emissions and most of the time we do everything we can to get kubota to eat it. Only once that I can think of did a customer have to pay, and he was aware from the get-go. No insurance, nothing....was obviously vandalized, supply pump, rail, injectors, lift pumps. Had he had KTAC, covered, and $250 instead of 20x that.

UPDATE! Shop called me today. Was a bad ECU. Luckily have 1 year left on emissions warranty so it's covered

Hate that you had issues out of it, but I'm glad that they were able to help you with it.

Thanks for posting the solution. That's rare. And the big thing is, there are techs and kubota reps that read this site from time to time too and this is knowledge that we (and they) can use to store in our "hard drives"--might come in handy someday.
