What about one of them apple air tag things?

Know nothing about them.

Aren't folks tracking stuff with them these days?
air tags are just one version of Bluetooth devices. They only work when there's a LOT of apple devices nearby, USELESS in a 'country setting'. Your phone sends a request to EVERY APPLE product in the world 'have you seen my car, truck, tractor'. Now everyone's APPLE device tries to 'ping' it, then those with 'hits
' respond. You need a LOT of hits to get 'close'. Scary part is that APPLE has access to EVERY one of your phones... 24/7.

Any smart thief will know how to get your tractor so just have serial numbers recorded and good ,replacement, insurance. Best setup I saw was a 'tiltnload tow truck' with a seacan on it. Simply winched car into the can, closed the door. The car 'vanished' from the 'tracking'.

Well, yes and no. Only takes ONE apple device nearby, just for a short time.

My experience is related, but certainly not an in the country location experience. I did not lose anything EXCEPT the airtag on my keys. Did not even realize it until several days later. It was lost about 10 miles from my home. I ended up finding it, due to someone with an apple phone walking by it. I went and did find it amazingly. this was after several days of rain....

It only take one apple phone to pass by to get the location info...not trying to say more than that. But the airtags are impressive. Lost another one when working on my pond. Found it myself with my phone...just a tiny bit sticking out of the mud...could probably have found it if it was under the mud a bit....of course, if I had lost something with the airtag attached, I would have found the item too...
