Like grease, fuel additives, or Ford/Chevy/RAM trucks, "everyone" is not using the same stuff.....that I can assure you. That's okay - - we all have "favorites." ;)

IF you're talking motor oil - Like @TheOldHokie said, scientifically lots of options. Definitely want a diesel-rated oil.

I think spec in the manual is 10w-30?

Personally, I use Shell Rotella T6 5w-40, mostly because it's readily available, and it's a synthetic.

I like 5w for cold winter starts. I use tractor year-round for snow and mowing.

the cleanest lowest hour drained oil I pull out of someone's equipment from work. Free, saves the boss from having to pay for it's disposal.

I heard that if you don't use Amsoil Full synthetic diesel rated oil, you will have to put a new engine in soon?

I'm in the T-6 5W-40 camp as well. Really great stuff at a great price. Are their better? I guess so. I'm well stocked with it for the moment and since I got rid of my gas engine stuff (walk behind lawn mower for trimming- went to battery electric and same for snow blower moved both to Toro 60V electric), the Rotella will last a little longer :D Since I don't have 2 engines using it now. Once I switch my generator off gasoline to LP/Nat Gas, it too will not need as many oil changes as it will run cleaner.
And hopefully I'll find a battery electric pressure washer.
Hope to whittle my collection down to only 2 internal combustion engines. My Bota and the backup generator. Hell even my car is no longer combustion. :D Went electric there as well and love it

Most -motors- do not need oil, they usually have sealed bearings.
Engines DO need regular oil changes.
WWWWWWHAT!
So we've all been doing it wrong for years and years!
It's not, MOTOR OIL, It's engine oil.... HUMMMM.
There are trillion gallons of useless MOTOR OIL in circulation.
We are all doooooooomed till they produce more Motors to use the oil in.
What about the Motorways.... again completely useless Unless you drive an EV.

Motors are in refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, fans,.....etc.
Internal combustion engines are not motors!
Refrigerators are not ice boxes either!

Sooooo all the Motor oil in the world is for our refrigerator!
Only our Washing machines, AC units and Fans can use the Motorway.

Got it, duly noted!

"Motorway" is a British colloquial term.
I am unaware of any "motorways" in the USA.
Maybe North Idaho to Spokane ?
