Quite a bit of snow to remove this morning before taking my dog to the vet. We had 3" or more overnight and it was snowing as I was blowing, and it's snowed a bunch more since getting home so no doubt I'll be back out this afternoon or this evening.

Even snowfall around the valley varies so much let alone a couple of hundred miles away. For those near the base of the mountains, particularly on the East side of the valley, they're under many feet of snow in the winter, but the center and out to the west just a few inches typically. Consider that it's only around 15 miles from the base of the Mission Mountains on the East side to the Salish Mountains on the West side.

We've all heard of "lake effect snow" but there's also "mountain effect snow".

@North Idaho Wolfman, what's the snow load in your area, in terms of building a house or other structure? It's 60lb/sq.ft. at my place.

Yes we are normally the snow belt too.
This one just missed us.

It's 60lb/sq.ft. here too.
We've had as much as 14ft at the house in the time I've lived here, there was 28ft the year before.
Neighbor showed me pictures of him standing on top his roof and the snow was still taller than him.
They had to have a D8 CAT clear the road.
There were a huge number of houses crushed by it.

When I had the trusses engineered for our house, the truss company though I was nuts when i said I wanted 120lb/ sq.ft. trusses.
They are 2x6 top and bottom cord 2x4 web and made with Tamarack / Larch gold grade lumber.
They are HEAVY but super strong.
Everyone says I over build everything!
I just don't want it to ever fail.

Got home work earlier than normal and asked the spousal unit what she would like for Valentines Day…she said she wanted some wood…I said ‘yes ma’am’. Then she told me to go play with the tractor. Somebody got mud all over our road too…no idea who did that .

I managed to get enough out of the woods to play with this weekend (before weather turns cold ice snow this weekend) to start putting away for next year.

Finally got the chinesium auger mounted. It's heavy, inelegant, not ideal...but it should work. Just need some new hoses and for the ground to thaw a bit. Not gonna happen next week for sure.

edit: shoutout to a local company for the bucket ears...they fit perfectly. If anyone needs them, I'd suggest you get in touch with them. They make bucket skis too.

If that had an access door/hole in the floor that might be an awesome ice fishing machine! Got the auger(maybe need a different auger/sharp tip), cozy cab and ability to move haul stuff out and back

I was thinking the same thing. I have an HD25 and the auger can swing in two orthogonal planes. There's a spring to offset the weight of the hydraulic motor which hangs off the side.

I was thinking that I might need to move some snow this evening, and looking out the kitchen window around 5.30pm I saw that my neighbor's wife had managed to go off the driveway and into the ditch that runs alongside the driveway. Technically she's my neighbor's tenant, but both she and her husband are really good people. I sent a text to her husband telling him to let me know if they needed help.

He got home an hour later, and after 30 minutes of him trying to pull the car out with his truck he texted me asking if I could help. I have the loader on the MX6000 so took the hydraulic snow blade off, grabbed a long strap and shackle and headed down to help, blowing snow on the way down of course. The MX simply couldn't get enough traction to pull the Acura out of the ditch and back onto the driveway despite using the loader to lift and pull the car. The driveway gets steep right about where the car went off and the snow off the driveway is 2ft to 2-1/2ft deep.

OK ... time to fire up the beast, so I headed back up the driveway with the blower running of course, and started the M6060. 10 minutes later I was back down at the car and we (my neighbor actually) got a strap on the rear wheel and off I went in creep range and first gear. Even pulling up a fairly steep section in deep snow, the mighty M made easy work of getting the Acura out of the ditch and onto the driveway. Once the rear wheels were on the driveway I repositioned the M and my neighbor hooked the strap up to the front wheel. A few minutes later the car was where it needed to be. Frankly I was impressed that the M could pull that load while climbing a steep grade and in deep snow, something the MX could never do.

Nice recovery.

Cleaned up the yard and driveway. It's been very cold and high wind made a hard mix of soil and snow so a combination of using the rear blade to break it up and the blower to send it on its merry way.
