i upgraded the seat on my L3800 a few years ago. It didn’t fit very well so I returned it. One thing I noticed was the spring was not strong enough to lift the new seat and activate the seat safety switch when I stood up. Is this something you just live with or can you upgrade the spring too?

So some of the original suspension seats from the "standard" L series had major issues of them sticking in the down position. If the problem with your seat is that is sticks in the down position, You can spray lube and work it back and forth to free it up. This video is from 16 years ago but shows what you need to pry it up and down.

I didn't have time to work on it at the farm so I removed the base to bring it home to work on... it was also easier to spray lube with it off.

Sorry for the piss poor video quality... you have to press "watch on youtube" (I don't know how or why this happens)

Also, the pins ended up failing (the pins that hold the springs on) I had to replace them with bolts. Still working fine...
