Just got off the tractor and found these spots in the snow.

I looked for a coolant leak but that seemed ok.

I am thinking that I ran over a nail and it's tire ballast, but couldn't find it with a "cursory inspection"

I can't remember what type of ballast they put in, but I thought it was "beet juice".

I have only ever ate 'red beets" though.

Guess's?

Diesel fuel or your dog is working hard at marking his territory. Check your fuel filters for a loose clamp.

Grab a sample with snow and melt it, that will tell you if it's water soluble or not.

yep...running back and forth, in a small area, moving IBC totes with firewood around.

Hahahh.....my dog "Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock" (aka Gunny) has been gone a long time......but thats another story.

That looks a whole lot like the hydraulic leak I had a few days ago.
Check your filters.

Melt the snow. Take a lighter to the fluid. If it burns, diesel. If not, hydraulic. If it puts the flame out, drink it

It's the juices you squeezed out of the weeds under the snow. I had similar last week when the ground under the snow wasn't fully frozen.
