Oregon Fuel Injection have listed Denso injectors for $104 each, but out of stock. Messick's has Kubota injectors for $221 each. I will try and find the Denso injectors in stock. My T-Mobile home internet is having issues right now. I think. I will get the Harbor Freight compression tester to verify I have good compression. Thanks for the help!

Update. I got a compression gage. Starting at flywheel 1st cylinder 260psi(low) 2nd 380psi 3rd 380psi. I am going to check valve adjustment. Would a bad head gasket goes the 1st cylinder to be low? I am going to check after checking valves.

Not very likely, but not out of the realm of possibilities.
Usually when it's a head gasket issue it will leak between mutiple cylinders.

Have you had any overheating issues?
As a cracked head will affect compression.

Also a leaking or maladjusted valve can cause low compression.

Check injector gasket sealing and glow plug sealing too.

Did you check compression with the injector adapter or the glow plug adapter?
One possibility is if you check compression with glow plug and you had low compression it could be the injector internally leaking causing low compression.

I adjusted the valves per shop manual, same result. I have not had an overheating issue. could I swap Injectors to see if low compression follows the injector? Thanks for your help Wolfman, you are a treasure! I checked compression with glow plug adapter.

I know it would be better to change all three injectors at once. Can I buy one Denso injector for the cylinder with 260psi? If this fixes the problem, I would change the other two with my tax refund. Thanks!

I would simply swap injectors to sort out if that could be the reason for your low compression before buying anything at this point.

I believe that is what I will do when I get a free day to work on it. This should answer if it is the injector or maybe the injector pump that feeds that injector. Thanks!

Yes swap the injector in the cylinder with the low compression and see if that low compression follows it.
And yes if it proves to be a bad injector, buying just that injector for now will work.

Your issue will NOT be the injector pump!

I swapped the injectors. Compression test (front) #3 = 280psi #2= 380psi #1 = 340psi. Before swap, #3 was 260psi. Same cylinder that was 260psi before swap. I did the compression test twice to verify. Should I replace the injectors and see what happens? I replaced the two fuel filters and getting fuel flow to pump. The electric pump is working. The tractor has 1879 hrs bought new in 2000. I have changed oil every year since new. It has spent its live mowing grass at full throttle. i may have to put it in the shop for repair.

...The tractor will turn over ...but will not fire up....I am getting a good amount of black smoke.
Can someone explain how a Diesel turns over, doesn't fire, and yet produces black smoke?

Only very small amount of smoke now when turning over.
You have one very weak almost dead cylinder, but it should still fire up on 2 cylinders and then spin the third fast enough to fire.

Still no start?
Have you bled the injector lines at the injectors?
Are you getting power to the glow plugs?

I loosened each line at the injector one at a time while turning engine over only got small amount of fuel, same on each line. I have 12.2volts at glowplugs when wire is off 10.5 when wire is on glowplugs. The black smoke is back. It tries to hit off and run. Battery is good less than a year old. I am working on it Today during the snow. Thanks for your quick reply!

Have you ohm tested the glow plugs?

Do you have a hair dryer or heat gun, stick a it in the intake and crank it.

I tried the heat gun on high with rubber intake hose removed. Only black smoke would not fire up. May be back to fuel issue (injectors)? It is not lack of heat from glow plugs. Had the heat gun on high for a couple minutes before turning over.

Your going to make a video of it cranking.
Post the video on youtube or PM me and I'll give you an email to send it to me.
