As I took the B down to get the garbage cans and mail, cause its too darn cold to walk that far. I grabbed the mail and got to the house, I find a very official envelope from the US Treasury,,, )*&&*&^$@&((#)(*#,, how much do they want now and I aint even done my taxes yet ! Now when I opened it I find a official looking check in side for a refund, for something. No letter of explanation nothing to tell me what this is for, I mean da gubermint giving me money back ,that dont sound right. And of course being a weekend there is no one working, and the web site is less than helpful. So has anyone else gotten a check in the mail from treasury, or is it some kind of a scam?

Could be a scam, but there was something in the news a weel or so ago about the government sending out checks (either $700 or $1400) to some folks who didn't get the 'Covid subsidy' checks in 2020/21.
Worth checking into.

Welp I got an answer today, I went to the bank and asked, teller said it looks like a scam to me I would just toss it. OK make sense to me too, but the bank manager over heard us talking. He took it and said I ll be back wait here. So I waited for the PoPo to show up, nope he went and checked it on some web site and it was a good check. It turns out it was covid money,, whoda thunk not me for sure. Thanks for the input guys
