I have a F-3060 Mower with a V1305 engine.
It had an engine overhaul about 250 hours ago.
Bought it non running. Had a fuel return manifold leaking.
Found a crack so purchased a new one.
Put everything back together and bled the fuel system.
Turns over and has fuel at the injectors but no start.
Bought a compression tester and it showed 200lbs on all cylinders.
Since that was very low, I installed a new head gasket.
Did not find anything else that looked bad.
I have since found out the gauge was China and incorrect.
Adjusted valves and tried to start it.
Turns over and now I get some smoke but no start.
It tries but no joy. Bled fuel again just in case but no good.
Getting frustrated with it but will eventually find the issue.
Got such a good deal I can put a little money in it.
Mostly labor spent now.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I so badly want one of those!

Did you check compression again with a good gauge? What is the PSI for each cylinder now?

Do you have the glow plugs working? If so, then use them longer and see if it will start. I know it’s HOT here but my old L185 needs glow plugs to start (easily) all year long.

Good luck!

I have not checked the compression again. Waiting on the warranty return of the failed gauge. It seems much better and produces smoke now which it did not do before.
Thanks

What color of smoke?
And have you tested the glow plugs?
Have you tested the Injectors?

Glow plugs are good. Smoke is lighter but not pure white. Injectors pop at 1700 with decent pattern. New head gasket definitely improved it but I think we have a ring issue. The person I bought it from did the overhaul and said it ran for over 200 hours then started running rough. He did not use it much but next time he went to use it it would not start. He found the leaking return manifold. That’s when he decided to just sell it. Thought it would be an easy fix but??
thanks

I believe the white(er) smoke indicates too much fuel so you might want to inspect the injectors or replace them with new from the dealer or Oregon Fuel Injection (rebuilder)

Can you get it running by pull starting or is it not a gear drive?

I just ran another compression test. 1-320, 2-220, 3-220, 4-270. Very strange. Still suspect rings or bad piston grooves. Seems to be a fam

No way to pull start. Injectors were tested and working properly. Just not enough compression to get it started. With the numbers I got I think 1 and 4 are trying and that’s where the smoke is coming from. Thanks

I just went thru that same thing with a F2560/D1105 3 cylinder-- low compression. Pulled the head, found valves were leaking pretty bad. Had the head done, still no start. Did a leak down test, air blowing past the rings. Pistons out, found the 2nd and oil rings were stuck. Ended up with new pistons and rings, Runs like a champ now.
The new rings would not even go into the old pistons.

I pulled the pistons. Rings are free. The cylinders are smooth as a babies butt. Totally glazed. Going to run a home to brake the glaze and ordered be rings. Hope that fixes it. Thanks for the insight.

I honed the cylinders and installed new rings. Same results. I was stupid not doing the valves when the head was off. Oh well it's easy to pull. Most quotes are really high to do the valves. Might go with a replacement head. Don't have much into this so it's worth it. Debating on a China clone or Kubota factory head. Really not much choice but go with the original, I think.
