tire ballast

Hello,

Looking around at different types of ballast for the rear tires on a 3902. Most places near me do antifreeze or methanol - don't really like the idea of the dog getting into the antifreeze if it leaks, and methanol just doesn't seem like a great idea. Can't find a place that does rim guard/beetjuice that's anywhere closer than 2 hrs. Had a shop recommend TireLife (https://www.fullerbros.com/tire-life-product-overview/) - has anyone ever used that?

I am not familiar with your winters or how much ballast you really want to add weight wise, but is water an option where you are at temp / weight? (My assumption is Georgia winters are not so cold?) It’s certainly not as heavy as some options but the price is right and certainly safe with animals?

Just a thought.

Methanol (windshield wiper antifreeze) is not the same a glycol (radiator antifreeze), and it probably is not as attractive to animals. However, it is a dangerous to them.

If you want something safe and freeze proof, have them fill your tires with RV/Marine Potable Antifreeze. It will taste bad to animals, but it will not harm them or humans. It is good to -50 degrees. It is $4 a gallon at Walmart.

EDIT: FWIW, the RV Antifreeze would cost a little over $250 (about 65 gallons). I am basing that estimate on my LX2610SU that has the same tires as the L2501.
