reminds me. I had a guy stop by last week, wednesday to be exact, dropped off a 4 wheeler for me to work on. I finished it Friday and called him. No answer. Ok whatever. Left message. Got a call Saturday, he was in the hospital. Apparently they're building a deck on the back of the house and he cut his fingers off with the saw. Showed up Monday to pick up the ATV, hands bandaged up. I drove it onto the trailer and tied it down for him. He could've just said hang onto it until I can get better but no, he was going stir crazy with nothing to do but mope around feeling sorry for hisself. That would be me. I get a little sick and don't do nothing and depression sets in. I need to be busy doing, something. Even doing dishes or laundry is better than sitting around with nothing to do.

RWS! Sorry for your mishap but grateful you dodged a bullet. I am stunned that you didn't hit lung, heart, or great vessels with that impalement injury. Your story parallels that of Phineas Gage, without the brain damage of course. Always appreciative of your advice here on the forum. Glad you'll be around to continue to dispense it.

Like you and that guy (and probably most here) I am going Stir Crazy right now. (y) (y)

With my wife enforcing the 'light duty' orders from the Doc like a Safety Nazi, my effort to make 'lemons into lemonade' has had to turn to 'computer work'

I decided to focus on my CAD/CAM skills for the new Crossfire Pro CNC Plasma Cutter.

Working with computers has never been my "strong suite" so this CAD/CAM (Auto Fusion and SheetCAM) programming has been challenging for me.

I did my first "dry run" yesterday and it actually worked, so there is hope for the near future.

Wow...
It only takes a second for something to happen. And of course God's watching over us. My prayers for a fast recovery.
My torch and ground run across from the machine to my bench. I can't count the times I've 'almost' tripped on the torch wire.

Your incident, just reminded of a mishap I had back in June. I got up early one morning and decided to go outside to check things out. We have a wooden ramp out the back door, I was concerned about frost, but it just looked damp but not frosty. I walk down the first section, then the second section. WHOMP!!!, I am laying on my back with the back of my head throbbing, and a bunch of skin missing from one forearm, and wondering what happened.
There indeed had been frost on the wood, and I was on my back before I knew what was happening. Luckily no real damage, no broken bones or torn muscles, etc. Just a bit tore up. I still have a scar on my arm from the skin getting peeled off.
Luckily my incident was pretty mild compared to yours. But things like this show just how fast life can change. We all need to value the days we have.

Were they able to put his fingers back on ?

Now would be a good time for you, your wife or your grandsons parents to sit down with him and teach him how to call 911 in an emergency. Use your situation and his witness of it to reinforce the importance of calling for help and telling them what you need for help. Life can change in an instant. I was in a very bad work accident 15 years ago that left me permanently disabled and changed my life, my wife’s life, my 2 daughters lives forever at the age of 39. We never take any day for granted here anymore. Glad to hear that you were so lucky in a bad situation and are recovering well.

I couldn’t figure out what the penis gauge story referred to… Tales told by fisherman buddies came to mind, but I didn’t think that related… Then I looked back and realized my pronunciation probably wasn’t correct! :)

In case I wasn’t the only one:

“Phineas Gage was a railroad construction foreman who, in 1848, survived a severe brain injury that dramatically changed his personality and behavior. While using a tamping iron to pack explosive powder into a rock, a spark ignited the powder, sending the iron rod through his left cheek, behind his left eye, and out the top of his skull, destroying much of his frontal lobe.

Remarkably, Gage was able to walk and talk immediately after the accident and lived for another 12 years. However, those who knew him reported significant changes in his personality and behavior. Once a responsible and well-liked man, Gage became impulsive, irreverent, and had difficulty maintaining social relationships and holding down a job.

His case was one of the first to suggest a link between brain injury and changes in personality, providing early evidence for the role of the frontal lobes in regulating behavior and personality. Gage's skull and the tamping iron are now on display at the Warren Anatomical Museum at Harvard Medical School.”

Yeah, it's a classic story taught in neuro anatomy. As far as a penis gauge goes, wouldn't a tape measure work?

Snapped a pic of Runs with Scissors following his wife's light duty orders!

Seriously glad you had an Angel on your shoulder.

With all the crazy stuff happening around us and around the world, it is sometimes easy to believe that we have abandoned God and God has given up on us. It is refreshing and comforting to see that he is still with us and still cares. All the best and we will pray for your uneventful and speedy recovery.
