OK, I'm curious....
spec sheet says engine RPM is 2500, MidPTO is 2500
so...
is it really designed as a 1 to 1 ratio ?
or just a coincidence ?

The Kubota Rotary Mower Operator's Manual states "Keep the engine at full throttle for best results." Really?

I kept the engine running in the PTO 540 range while using my mower for the first time yesterday. Should I run the engine faster? Is it safe to run the engine at full throttle?
I run my 3PH mower at 540rpm and my ZTR at WOT.

^^^^^^

Same.

My Tractor has a certain engine RPM that results in 540 RPM at the PTO and I run it within a small 'window' depending on cutting conditions.

My Zero turn is run at 3600 rpm (WOT) since that is the ideal speed for engine performance and cooling.

WOT = Wide Open Throttle? AKA, Full Throttle?

PTO 540 on my BX2380 is 3100 - 3200 RPM on the tachometer. The tachometer shows up to 4000 RPM but I've never tried to find the fastest the engine will rev.

I was just wondering what you guys do.and should I do it differently.

Lawn looks good.

Actually Wolfman your answer was not totally correct. Tractor manufacturers and other equipment manufacturers set the rpm limits for operating using adjustable stops on the throttle linkage. Yes the governor helps control and maintain the speed but the throttle stop on the linkage keeps you from adding more fuel and speed to the engine, keeping it at a prescribed speed.
I'll accept that fact for a mechanical unit, but an electronic unit is all in the programing.

So am I at least half right at least... I got to maintain my "I'm smarter than you" status. ;)

Do what works for you and your conditions.
You just don't want too slow, it won't cut good, it will work the tractor too hard, and it will cause the tractor to over heat.

All this PTO vs. engine speed has me remembering some results from my cutting with the MX and M.

The M6060 has a 540E mode and no indicator on the tachometer for engine rpm for 540 rpm at the PTO since there's a digital display for the PTO. There's close to a 400 rpm reduction in 540E mode. One of the many things I like about the M6060 is that I can have the ECU control engine RPM as the load on the engine changes, such as climbing a hill while pulling a cutter.

The MX6000 does have a region on the tach to indicate engine RPM to produce 540 RPM at the PTO.

Wow! That seems really high, but I forget where it was on my BX25.

On my B2601 the 540 mark is at 2800 rpms. When I'm mowing, I run it at 2600.

I looked up the hp/torque curve of the engine and the hp is the same between 2550ish and 2800 rpm. But the torque is higher and the fuel usage is less at 2600 rpms.

The grass looks just as good, and it uses less fuel.

I misspoke, according to specs above your pto speed is indeed 2500 which sounds insanely fast but it's right there in black and white. I can't keep farm tractors and amphibious lawn mowers sorted out which isn't good when talking about Kubota. I just learned something else ,according to spell check Kubota is both singular and plural. No such thing as Kubotas.
Kubotii.
