Before spending $56/each for oil seals that might be incorrect, I thought I'd post the question here.
I have an L3240HST sn 36434 that is leaking oil at the front axles. The leak on the RH is heavier than the LH, so I've decided not to put gear oil in as a temporary holdover, but instead just replace both seals.
Looking at the parts breakdown, the seal shows a different part number based upon a serial number break. TA140-13040 is shown for numbers prior to 36621, and TC230-13040 for numbers from 36622 and up. However, many online dealers list the TC230-13040 as a direct replacement for the TA140-13040.
Calling on a few different dealer parts departments, I received conflicting answers with one telling me to get the more recent version of the seal and, after taking the axle apart, see if it fits. I didn't like that answer, so I'm posting this and hoping to find better expertise on this forum.
Thanks for reading through all this, and thanks for the help!

The TA140-13040 has been superseded by TC230-13040.

When you removed the old seal, did you remove the second half which seems to stick to the upper housing? That's a cassette style seal.

Kubota parts that supersede an older part will almost always fit the older units, that's why they are superceded.
It's a way for them to upgrade a part and make it work in newer and older equipment.
There are some Kubota parts that span may generations of Kubota's and they all work in the older models.

What you would not want to do is take an older part and put it in a newer housing / unit/ build, then it would most likely fail prematurely. ;)

I have not yet disassembled the axle. Have you heard of anyone with an earlier sn, like mine, using the newer seal?
You questioning your dealerships and a 24 year tenure Kubota dealership person. Buy the seals and associated o-rings, install them and forget about the break!

FYI I even logged into Kubota KPAD and ordered the original number and it automatically cancelled the first number and superseded it to the second on their system.

The parts sub over to an updated seal. The seals look dif in appearance but they just updated the part. Very common failure on kubotas
