We are currently going through the hottest weather since 1976. We are currently hovering around 90F and no rain for the past 5/6 weeks except for 1 day and nothing major forecast
Sales of factor 50 and ice-cream are gone through the roof. They say we need 3.5" of rain to restore the moisture deficit in the soil. Roads are destroyed by melting tar. We can't sleep, we can't eat, everyone is afraid of a hill fire starting and we are running low on water
We don't have aircon, we don't drink enough water, we have a part-time fire service.
We are not prepared for snow in winter or heat in summer because neither is normal for us

We Irish are not built for this. But after last year no-one is complaining. We hardly had a dry day between April 2017 and April 2018.

That heat wave seems to be effecting the whole northern hemisphere. Was 103 here yesterday. But not a big deal. This region is used to heat and pretty much everyone has AC in there house in some form. We aren't really equipped to deal with snow here either though.

Hope it cools off for you soon and gets a little more comfortable.

On a side note, my son showed up here the other day with a form for us to sign. He and his fiancee are heading to Blackrock, Cork towards the end of July. They're getting married at the Blackrock Castle and observatory. Wished we new about it about 6 months ago. We would have crashed there trip The form was to say we were ok with them getting hitched

We are the exact opposite than all of you.
Winter was way way over average, 486% snow pack and cold.
Spring and so far summer has been rainy and cool, in fact it's 62f and sprinkling right now, and will be in the mid 40's tonight again.
All the wet and cool has made everything grow like mad, I've got pines with foot and 1/2 growth.

We've had very little snow this winter but spring seemed to last forever. The last 2 months we have had very heavy rains and every year the wind seems to get stronger. This week they have heat and humidity warnings, looks like I'll be mowing twice a week for a while.

90 degrees on an island is toasty indeed.

So far the Surface of the Sun has seen a nice move into summer. Average daily temp here today is 106 and that is right about where we are. A few days above and a few days below. The 4th is a few days away and that is usually blazing hot but, the forecasts this year are decent. We are in the monsoon season but, the humidity is low right now.

We too need rain as we have only had measurable rain once in over 100 days. The desert has greened out beautifully but we'll need a couple more monsoon showers to keep things looking alive through September.

There is a plant in AZ that is my favorite desert plant: the Ocotillo. It stands leafless and dead looking until it gets rain. It takes half the rain through its upper structure and the other half through its root system. One day of rain and they all exploded in leaves within 24 hours...

Watched/talked to a guy digging a trench for a water line in the high country last week. (6700ft) The ground is so dry he was getting talcum powder-like dusty dirt at a depth of 39 inches.
Forest Service says this is the worst drought in 2000 years.

I try not to bitch about the summer weather....I don't have to put hay in anymore...and I bitch about snow ALOT!!!

Our farmers are finishing first cutting here, so there's guys up in a mow right now.. God Bless those fellows for their hard work. BTDT...

Damn man, that is scary. My well is 225 feet deep with 5 gallons a minute coming out the over flow. The problem is the pump is only down 15 feet and the way things are going looks like we're in for a change soon. Be damned if I want to start chasing it.

It hardly feels like spring still, but it’s already summer. We got lots of rain again last night, and although it was 60’s all day, it was low 40’s at night. Looks like another storm rolling in next Tuesday, more rain and thunder. I’ll take the lush green, cool wet weather over that sweltering hot any day!

Mother nature spoiled us the past couple years with milder summers. Figure she is gonna make up for it this summer My employer had gotten all the employees in the area tickets to the ball game yesterday in Little Rock. But instead of just getting the party deck like they usually due, we got a couple air conditioned suites and the party deck this year.

Suites got so crowded that we ended up sitting outside in the heat in the seats that came with the suites. Had a pretty stiff breeze and was fairly comfortable till about the 6th inning, then the breeze stopped and it got miserable.

I did that about 12 years ago when the ac crapped out in my house in Florida. House was about 100 degrees inside windows in my bedroom slid sideways to open it.

I grabbed a $100 AC unit from wally world about 10 pm that night. Stuffed it in the window. Cut a block to wedge into the widow casing to keep pressure on the unit top to bottom and on the side. Then cut a sheet of plywood to stuff in above the unit. A little duct tape and we were good till the unit could get fixed

I wonder if the Water Directorate has ever noticed the irony of being an island with a water shortage? I guess its rare but, they could easily and relatively inexpensively hook up some mobile reverse osmosis systems to purify seawater. I laugh when L.A. complains about no water when they live on the beach of the largest body of water on the planet. The government of California would rather build a pipeline from Shasta in northern CA to siphon off their water. Didn't work too well for Mono Lake in the 30's.

Desalination is the future. Problem is, all the Irish water companies are probably small companies that started a century or two ago and few are interconnected. As a result, the cost of going R.O. would break the bank for most of them.
