I purchased a reefer trailer for storage. It has a working unit on it. V1902 in my excavator has issues. Thinking my cheapest option is to put the V2203 in it. Pretty sure the 1902 has a bad sleeve. I have read on here there are differences between di and idi engines. How do I tell which ones I have? Any tips for saparating compressor from 2203? Excavator is from mid 80s. Reefer is mid 90s

Serials
V2203-227287

V1902-84526

Thanks

There are quite a few differences in the V2203's, but most should work if you can bolt it up.
The V2203's will have a bigger rear journal pattern, this in my case of a swap from a V1702 to a V2203 was just a matter of reworking the rear mount.

The exhaust, and oil pan will be a direct swap, but the intake can get tricky if it's a V2203 late version DI engine as the injection lines will get in the way of a direct intake swap.

On the excavator:
How does the V1902 couple to the hydraulics?
Does the motor drive anything else?
Is there a pump mounted on the back of the Injection pump?

For more engine information look on the top of the valve cover for a white label with information.

No DI in serial on either.
Injection lines look like they will not be in the way.
Hydraulic pump hooks to a splined shaft that I’m guessing is bolted to flywheel.
Does not drive anything else.
Nothing on back of injector pump.

No label on either valve cover.

The reefer motor has a second oil filter that is remote mounted. When I switch timing cover is there any reason to keep second filter? (Have to change front cover as filter would be in the way of motor mount.)

All I can tell you from the serial # is that it's pre 1997.

Pictures will tell a lot more.

How does the pump attach to the back of the motor?
Is it via the bell housing?
