towing with a 1500

i have a 2006 chevy 1500 with a 5.3 2500 rear leafs trailer barkes factor tow pac 10000lbs trailer i use to tow my l3010 with a 3500 duramax factory tow pac. do you guys think that when they 3500 is in the shop next month i could tow the l3010 with the 5.3?

both trucks have full trailer brakes.
all 4 trailer tires have brakes
displasment ramps to take strane off the truck when loading/unloading

Not a problem at all - I have towed with a lot less HP. The gasser is not going to have the get up and go like the duramax however. Diesel torque is the same as pulling a cloud of air behind you! Your L3010 is about the same load as a fully loaded BX25D (assuming it is the bare tractor)- I tow mine with a Chevy 4.8 without any problems.

Braking is the ultimate situation - almost any truck will get it moving, but stopping the load is the part that creates the most havoc.

I agree with Hokie, your 1500 will do fine. It will be a little weaker on take off than what you are used to but it will get the job done. Weight placement on the trailer will play a more important role due to the lighter suspension of the 1500 series pick up. As long as you have your load balanced right and the trailer brakes are working properly you shouldn't have any problems. Back when my family ran a Kubota dealership in the 70s and 80s, we used three 1/2 GMC pickups to haul the tractors using 16ft tandem axle trailers. They would haul all the tractors up to a M4000. The bigger M series and the KH series backhoes were hauled with the 1 ton dually and the goose neck trailer.

No problem towing with a half ton. Use common sense, stabilizers help, and a balanced load. I tow my 4500lb Bronco on the same trailer ( dual with brakes) as my Bx25D no problems at all

do you guys think i should load the trailer 40/60 or more 45/55 to make it easer on the truck but it would be much more prone to bucking up and down on bumps

I load more weight forward to minimize sway, I just watch my bumper squat an inch or two. Dont want the front end lifting while driving. But you've towed with a one-ton, so Im sure Im not typing anything new...

My 03 dodge does a good job towing no complaints with it but the best truck I ever had as far as pulling a trailer was a 1988 Ford f150 with the fuel injected 300 inline 6 cyl and 5 speed not much hp but gobs of torque.

I think air bags with individual valves, and stabilizers will do more than anything when towing with a half ton. I do love the new small block V8's compared to ten year old engines though.
