Interesting, I wonder what the crew size is to account for the expertise needed. It would creep me out to spend much time working near all that big equipment and engines, essentially below the waterline. I’m not usually claustrophobic, but watching that made me want to look for the windows in my house.

It's much more impressive than I ever could have imagined:

I wonder if the captains’ seat has a safety switch?😉

Way back in time I worked for a company that made equipment installed on a lot of Navy vessels, one being the the USN Comfort. I had to go to Baltimore MD twice a year to service and test it.
One time there I finished my work and had to get back up topside to speak with the Head Engineer and elevator I 1st used was down for repairs, so the guy's working on it told me how to find another one.
Well after wondering around lost I found a bank of elevators and pressed up. The doors opened and i was looking at an Operating Room, finally someone pointed me in the right direction and I got back up to the Engineer's Office..... Good Times.

With proper maintenance, I wonder what the service life is of a container ship?

Thanks for sharing! I followed a rabbit trail which led to a 30 minute movie from the Detroit Historical Society about Great Lakes Freighters. I saw the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Arthur M. Anderson! Too cool!

The crew size on most container ships now is usually 14-20 people. I’m retired Coast Guard and have boarded hundreds of deep draft vessels during my career. Older vessels may have a slightly larger crew.

Typically each crew member has their own stateroom. Some of them even have a swimming pool, gym, and lounge with a bar and unlimited DVDs For entertainment.

Every meal I ever had on a foreign flagged vessel was as good as almost any restaurant I’ve ever been in, especially the Greek and Italian ships. The crews were always very hospitable and courteous. U.S. flagged vessels on the other hand were all unionized and the crews were not as friendly to us when we boarded them.
