OK, the first time this happened I figured it was just a fluke.

The pin that holds the front of the seat on came part way out and the seat fell sideways. I replaced the original clip that had fallen out of the pin with a cotter pin and bent it well. A couple months later, it happened again....now the cotter pin is gone. What the heck is going on? Anybody got an idea that will permanently fix this?

Never heard of it. Are you positive that no one is screwing with you? I can't see how a properly bent cotter key can just come out, unless it's really subject to a good bit of shear stress, at which point it was just break off. If that were the case, you'd see the marks of something hitting on the end of the pin. That pin is buried down below the seat and nothing really comes close to it. It IS a plastic seat that I am not a fan of, but the pin coming out is not something I've ever heard of on the L01's. Perhaps a long 8mm bolt, with a pair of jam nuts or a nylock nut on the end? Or tack weld one of the jam nuts.

If you find a cause and solution, please post it if you can.

I had the same problem on My L3901, I actually used My wife's hairpin in a quick fix because we were in the field... Its still there and has been in it for three months without so much of a thought of a break on the pin. It worked! Don't have a clue how You broke a cotter pin in it. That's what I was going to do but had use the last one in My tool box on the tractor for the bush hog. Good luck!
