Rock & Boulder Trailer?

I’m hoping to find a good heavy duty trailer for hauling rocks and boulders. I’ve searched here on the forums but they cover mainly road worthy trailers. I’m looking for a trailer that would handle on average 2’-3’ boulders being put into it and then “hopefully” dumped for unloading. It’d have to be heavy duty. But the size doesn’t have to be all that large since my tractor is only a 32 hp. Low profile preferred if that would be an option. So if I can get at least 5 of these boulders in it at a time I’d be a happy camper. The only problem is I can’t fond anything online that’d be suitable. So I’m hoping you experts on here could give me some advice. I’m not real familiar with the type or size of tires. It’d be mainly on a decent two track road covering 40 acres.

Thanks everyone in advance!

How many of these do you want to move? Getting them up on the trailer might prove to be difficult. I think a 32 hp tractor might have a problem picking up a rock that big. A custom made trailer would be expensive. Maybe something old school might work, perhaps a sled. A car hood might work for one rock at a time.

hmm.. '2-3 ' boulders'.
Rock weighs about 150 #/cuft, so a 2by2by2 'rock' is 8 cu ft weighing in at over 1,000 #.
a regular single axle 'utility trailer' with 5 bolt/3500# axle will carry 2 MAYBE 3 'boulders'. to carry.move.dump you need a tandem axle trailer,7000#,6000# load capacity.. far more stable and you get e-brakes.
have to ask ,just how many boulders are you talking? one shot deal?? if there's lots.. buy a small(5x10,6x10)tandem dump, use then resell. cost of moving the rock is purchase cost-selling cost.

up here guys do that with backhoes to build garages and such....
buy-use-resell....

Sounds to me like you need a much bigger tractor before considering a trailer.

Not the question but I couldn’t agree more! I need the M series in the worst way. But, meanwhile, back to reality,.... tractor I have is perfect. Just need to locate a trailer for it. Thus the post:~).

Are you moving the trailer with the tractor or a truck?

OK, silly question ...
WHERE are the rocks going to go once you get them out of the ground ?
If staying on you property, maybe use a 'stone skid' and make windrows of rocks, then ,later lift/haul to a common area for 'processing' ?
The loading/moving of 2-3 boulders any distance will take a LOT of time !
I've go a fuzzy picture and 40 ACRES of boulders does NOT sound like fun to clear !

Hi Sean. Tractor only. It’ll never hit the road.
Low boy dump wagon would be perfect, My uncle had one just for rock in Harbor Beach, MI way back when.

Let me look around in your neck of the woods, and see if there is one to be had.

Are you going to be useing these rocks for something or just moving them out of the way,,, And really you might be way ahead of the game to have someone with the right equipment come in and do what you need,,, OR a battery powered hammer drill and some cannon fuse and a couple pounds of black powder,,,just sayin

Selling each and every one of them:). Out of the 40 acres 30 acres are covered in rock to about 4’ down below grade through out. I’m doing this mainly as s hobby but also to generate an income. In my opinion, nothing better than playing in dirt on your own property and at the same time making profit.

OK, I'd look for a 'used-abused' car hauler or miniex mover. Presuming you've got a loader, so placing them on the trailer is easy. Hauling a tandem, even with 3-4 boulders is easy with 35HP tractor, unloading, well...that's easy too. I haul tandem loads of ponypoop all the time with the D-14 ( 35HP.gear tranny).
If you can find a trailer with working hydraulic 'tongue' brakes ( like U-hauls ) GREAT !! If the trailer has 'open center', fill in with 2x2 tubing every foot or 2.
Sadly a company up here has scrapped 60-75 trailers you could have used. For insurance purposes they had to document EACH trailer being cutup ! I dang ner cried when I saw the pile of them....
Check local ads, maybe rental places..heck it don't gotta be pretty !
