Hey All

Quick question, I am replacing trans oil, I have the WSM so following that is pretty straight forward ( pull plugs, clean strainer, put plugs back in and fill with UDT, the only thing is the WSM doesn't reference the FEL.

If I just follow the WSM the oil in the 6 rams and all the lines on the FEL won't be replaced, is this common to not replace the oil in the rams or do I need to drain the Rams and lines then bleed afterward?

Sorry if been asked a million times previously but I had a bit of a search and couldn't find anything explaining what needs doing.

Retract all the rams that you can. I wouldn't drain the rams a little old fluid is fine. Also being a hydraulic system they are self priming. I.E. if you replace a ram or line you do not have to prime the system.

No you don't need to worry about the little bit of fluid in the rams and lines, and yes it is a rather small amount in the grand scheme of things. ;)

Since most hydraulic cylinders on the tractor are double acting, doesn't retracting the cylinders just 'move' fluid from one end of the cylinder to the other?

Being retracted, the rod displaces more fluid than if it is extended. Manufacturers account for the fluid that doesn't get replaced at service when calculating filter size and service interval.
