Having trouble understanding if you are asking a question, reporting a problem, or something else.

When you say "regeneration", are you referring to "Regen" cycle which burns off carbon from the exhaust-filter? How does this relate to antifreeze temperature?

Regeneration can not occur with engine coolant below 140 degrees.

Radiator on L3901 vents coolant on starting, and the thermostat needle does not move enough to heat for regeneration.
I can't speak to the venting of coolant, but if the engine temperature indicator is not showing an expected increase in temperature then I would think that there are only a couple of possibilities. The indicator is malfunctioning, or the thermostat is stuck "open" and the engine is not heating up enough. Is the fluid level in the overflow where it should be, or is it high? I would look for simple answers first. If you need to, pulling the thermostat cover shouldn't be too bad of a job. The old school way to check a thermostat is to pull it out, put in in boiling water and see if it opens.

Good luck with your issue. Let us know how you make out.
