So I bought rear tire chains for my BX 1880. 24 x 12 x 12. That is the tire size. I have taken some air out of the tires. The chains will not go on. I have put on chains on other tractors with no problems. The chains I received are for the tire size I have. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong or others options

When installing chains, you lock the rear of the chains first. If you can't even lock the rear, then the chains are too short. Also, you should install spacers on your wheels if you are going to be using chains, because the clearance between the chain and the tractor is very tight, and you run the risk of damaging a hydraulic pipe. You didn't mention the type of tire, but if it is a bar type of tire, that can also be the problem. Personally, I don't use chains, but I do have a weighted bucket with 600# in it, and my tires are also weight-filled.

I have fitted and installed multiple sets of tractor tire chains and have never bought any set that did not require fittment for proper installation.

That said, most sets arrive too large rather than too small allowing removal of links to achieve proper fit.

Proper fittment takes time as does proper installation.

I will second the spacers on the BX and the B. things are way to close to get ripped off if the chains get loose

So proper size for 24x12-12 tire , but WHICH brand of tire !!!
Yeah, sounds 'silly' BUT guy needs a trailer tire 5.80-12(?) , I have 2 on rims, same air pressure, same 'size', NOT the same dimensions ! Mount them onto HIS rim, still NOT the same as his brand...
sigh, that was a LONG afternoon.......learned that you need the SAME tires on the same rims to be the same.....

I agree though , chains are generally 'sloppy' and I bet tire type...turf.bar,ind... will factor into the correct chain .
