I bought a used post hole digger and the output from the gear box is 2.5" OD. All the augers I can find are 2 inch ID. I know I can get a coupling to reduce (not cheap) but I'm wondering what I've bought. Thanks in advance for any help.

Can’t you just make a sleeve 3/16 or 1/4” wall and slip the three together? I know new trucks with a
large hitch receptical come with an adapter sleeve for using smaller hitches

Schedule 40 tube and a welder are your friend. Just welded up an extension on mine so I could auger 5' deep holes.

To give any more advice than what was already given, would need to know what brand/model PHD you bought.
