I have access to a l3301 The PTO is engaged all the time. When I looked at the PTO activation lever I found the cable was not moving. Does anyone know what the cable does ???

This is by the HST pedal - take the cover off under the seat area, I think you need to remove the 4x4 engagement knob.

It is rare to have a cable failure on the PTO control. The problem is almost always the PTO control shaft sticking where it enters the transmission case. There is a torsion spring around the shaft that holds dirt and moisture which sticks the shaft in the bore. No need to remove any covers, just spray a good penetrating oil (NOT WD-40!!!!) on the shaft at the case. You will need to be under the tractor to work the shaft back and forth anyway.nice pictures and agree with the suggested actions will post aftewr I remove cover and cycle lever ed
Well You were right. Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately, I read this after taking the covers off and disconnecting the cable on both ends. Learning experence. Durin reassemble, I lost both cotter pins. Acain learning more ever day. Thanks Again edIt is rare to have a cable failure on the PTO control. Usually, after working the shaft a few times, it is free enough to be returned to the OFF position by the spring pressure and you can work it several cycles using the lever. Keep the shaft lubed as part of your regular maintenance.
Out of probably, 50 PTO stuck on complaints, I have found one caused by the cable.
