Plow size for L2501 2wd.

A L2501 2wd with the ag R1 tires. What size plow could it pull, what are your experiences?
I have sandy easy soil. I would be willing to fill the tires but not add wheel weights.
Any chance it would be OK with a one bottom 16" plow? I want to plow deeper that I normally might.

I would think a single bottom plow would not be a problem. I grew up using a Farmall Cub which is <10 hp and pulled it with out any problem in heavy clay of SE Ohio.

You will have 600 or 700 pounds and 4 wheel drive over the cub. As you stated you can always add the weight to the tires. At the worst you may not be able to go deep into the soil.

I would recommend a single 12" or perhaps, 14". A single 16" is a lot to ask unless your soil is very light. In any event, you will need ballast of some type.

In sandy loam it should pull 2 12's no problem, semi mounted or full mounted, no difference.

In hard pan, a single 14.

I assume you have a plow by now, but I have a 16" for my 2501, and rarely have to use the front assist. also pulled it with an 870 2wd before I traded. The 2501 has better tires, and more weight than the 870.

In the manual it says it's rated for two 12's or one 16.

You wont have any problem with a one bottom 16" in sandy soil. Filling the tires of the L2501 does add several hundred pounds though and is worthwhile.
