new to Kubota and going to add a pats quick hitch to my 4802. Will adding a orc to add length and help with the pto brake hurt the tractor . /
. I have heard from some it will be a good addition and others seem to think it would not. Just wanted opinions from this site on your thought. Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.
thanks

The quick hitch and adjustable spreader bar makes it a lot easier to change implements by yourself.

It does add length; if using the 3-point hitch to pick up the longer length takes away from allowable load, and if the implements are driven by pto it will effect the drive shaft length. Not by much.

Per Kubota’s docs, the L4802 has a “live independent PTO with hydraulic clutch”. Same as the L4701 HST (which is what I have).

There are some tractors that have PTO’s that are tied into the same gear train that runs the wheels and don’t have a built in over run clutch. For those type tractors, an implement that has a good bit of inertia, such as a bush hog, will push the tractor despite the clutch being disengaged. The Ford 9N and Farmall H I operated prior to buying my L were both like that. Tractors with those type PTO’s need an external over run clutch to safely operate bush hogs and any similar implements that combine driving while running the PTO with something that has significant inertia.

For your L4802, what the PTO is doing has nothing to do with what the wheels are doing. The PTO is engaged with the engine at idle. To disengage normally (non-emergency), reduce engine to idle and let the PTO wind down before disengaging. That’s all you need to do to “help” the PTO brake.

If you’re trying to add length because the Pat’s is going to make your implements’ PTO shafts too short, it will provide some additional length. Other than that there’s no practical reason to add an over run clutch to the PTO on a L4802.

I would suggest you check the overlap on your PTO shafts after installing the Pat’s to determine if any of them are actually too short and if yes, decide if you want to add an over run clutch, PTO extender, or replace the shaft. YMMV…

You DO NOT want top add an overrun clutch!
They are not meant to be an extension.
You shouldn't have to add an extension unless all your PTO shafts have been cut way too short.

PTO extensions add the ability to wobble and destroy bearing in the case.

Use at your own risk!
