Hi Guys... a few moments after starting my B7800, it ran fine and was moving slowly up a slight incline when it suddenly seemed to "load up" chugging and engine rpms dropping... some white smoke and it coughed to a stop. Now it won't start. I'm not a diesel mechanic, but I suspect this must be a fuel related issue because there is no ignition system, and the compression seems fine (same as before). I am 'thinking' that perhaps I should bleed some fuel through the system at the injectors and try it again ( a bit of water perhaps???). Does this make any sense, and if not... any suggestions what I should try? Thanks as always for your inputs!! BoB in Massachusetts.

This is a very long shot, but the first thing I would check is the fuel cap breather. Loosen the cap, and try to start the tractor. If it starts, you have clogged cap breathers, which causes a vacuum to form in the tank. (No air in, no fuel out)

When diesel tractors run into problems on slopes, the fuel lift pump needs to be a suspect.

This does not apply to every tractor but many, depending upon the location of the fuel tank, can feed the injection pump by gravity when the tank level is high and the tractor is on a flat surface.

Introduce a slope and low fuel level, now the lift pump is needed to supply the injection pump.

Steps I would take:
1) get a Mr. Funnel or similar and drain the tank into a clean container to see if you have good fuel flow
2) evaluate how much water if any was in the tank (should be in the filter)
3) change fuel filter
4) fill tank with new fuel (use mr filter)
5) bleed fuel system per owner manual instructions
6) try starting tractor

Okay Guys... thanks for all the inputs. It ended up being water in the fuel (bad load of fuel apparently). I drained the fuel filter, and the tank and then bled the four injectors and away it went... ran it for about 30minutes with my chipper and it seems fine. Thanks again! BoB in Mass
