New Owner question

Just purchased my BX23S with a LP RCR1248. We just purchased our 10 acres here in Iola, Tx with my VA benefits.
I've noticed when Im cutting and go to turn that it digs on the skid plates.
Any suggestions/Advice? I just made some adjustments and wanted to attach a picture they way y'all could see.

Adjusting Rotary Cutters

I think a 4 wheel finishing mower will be more suitable for what you want

My cutters have always become bull dozers in doing turns. This is when running about 1 inch up in the front.

That mower is pretty much a brush hog. Cutting it as low as you do will give you the results you are experiencing. Either raise it or obtain a RFM. 4 swivel wheels eliminate all gouging.

I pull an RCR1884 around and it'll sometimes do the same thing if I don't raise up the front before the turn. All you have to do is raise the front a couple of inches and let the back roll on the tail wheel. I have two tail wheels and it rolls very nicely.

Once you're through the turn just lower the cutter to where you want it. I hate those 3-point and draft control stops that Kubota uses but the intent is to make it easy to drop the 3-point down to the same setting each time. @Matt Ellerbee recently provided a link to some cam type locking levers/clamping handles that make for nicer stops.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. While in Iraq I received a brain injury and so let me just say I am a little fuzzy on things, lol. I am getting there though!

If possible, maybe take wider turns ? You don't have a 'zero turn mower' so you can't expect it to use it as a 'zero turn'. There is a learning curve to using all machinery. After a few cuts, you'll figure out the 'lay of the land' and how to best cut the grass. Having two different 'course' will minimize the 'lay down pattern' that you can see if you always cut the same way, every time.

With the OP having a BX, I believe they are all 1/4 inching 3 point. The stop wouldn’t really work for him.

Well shoot! I had a BX for 5 years but how soon we forget. I only ever cut with the MMM but thanks for pointing that out. I'm going to order a few of those clamping handles since I can use them.

Not to hijack this thread, but I was looking at my BX23S yesterday, peered into the slot where the 3pt hitch control comes out and for the first time saw the 1/4" stop bracket, in the wild! Needless-to-say, it doesn't stick out far enough to do anything, but I did see the little nub on the lever that it's supposed to engage with. Made me laugh ... after reading about this thing and then seeing it ... "yup, that's about how they described it!"

It's too bad that the mid-mount mower depth control doesn't control the 3pt hitch too.

I was looking in the workshop service manual at the drawings for how the MMM height adjustment works. There's a cam controlled by the mower depth dial, and a rod that connects to the 3pt hitch. The cam limits how far down the mower can drop, and the rod can slide freely in its linkage with the 3pt hitch. This allows 3pt hitch to go lower without the mower continuing to drop. It probably wouldn't be that difficult to modify the rod and linkage so they are fixed.

But there's a huge but. The rod is designed to work in tension to support the weight of a mower. Repurposing the mower height control would require that the rod act in compression. And, it would need to support the entire weight of the 3pt hitch and any implements on it. Add in the leverage and the load on the rod would be crazy.

Other people have suggested using chains to limit how far the 3pt hitch can lower. You can't change it from the cockpit, but it works structurally.
