New owner with only 4hrs on unit. How do you guys mow leaves with this unit? It just seems to blow the leaves. I like cutting up leaves for the garden collecting them with a lawn sweeper. Does a mulching blade make any difference. Also, the see thru viewing of how much gasoline is in gas tank sucks.

I mow with a Scag ZT and don't have the issue of just blowing the leaves with out cutting. The leaves you are mowing over will get cut, but the next row will get blown by the discharge chute.

I see some people cutting in rectangles so the cut leaves will accumulate in a row for sweeper pick up. You just need to lower the throttle to control how far the leaves blow in the last two or three rows.

I just mowed our back yard today since the maple tress just lost their last leaves. The cut leaves were so small you would not be able to pick them up with a lawn sweeper.

Mulching blades work great for leaves.
It's one of the things they are made for.

I tried mowing leaves at lower speeds/lower throttle. Wasn't happy with it so got my old reliable simplicity Landlord 2210(58yrs old) with mulching blades & picked up leaves with lawn sweeper.

Careful with that. As far as I know that machine has an air cooled engine so it relies on rpm under load to move cooling air across the fins.

Anyhow, mulching blades do help.

To gather or sweep leaves I basically mow twice. I blow towards the middle starting at the middle and working outward so all leaves get cut before mower blows them. Once I get to the outer perimeter I keep blowing to the middle this time working my way back inward with the goal of blowing the leaf clipping into a windrow type pile to be swept or gotten up.
