Hi folks, I’m looking at purchasing a 2016 M7060 that has only been used for residential snow removal.

the owner of the tractor told me it’s only ever been used in high range and that it is now stuck and can’t be put into low.

I’m just wondering if this is something as simple as the shift linkage being rusted and seized from the road salt or is it possibly something a little more serious?

I think you have most of the problem solved with what you said " shift linkage being rusted and seized "

I would lube it up and maybe shift the stick while moving a tad bit...... Much like getting into 4wd or out - a small movement allows those gears to mesh.

Having plowed snow with mine a bit...... what we’re they using to plow with? I’m in and out of high/low all the time. I can’t imagine plowing all the tome in 1 or 2 high unless they are all easy, paved driveways, not without lots of clutch riding anyway!
I once had a stock flip up into the shift linkage area, there are a lot of rods to make it all work, so check that out good. Hopefully it’s just seized from lack of use.
I’m undercoating my machine before winter road use from now on....

X3 on checking/lubing shift linkages. My M7040 has been difficult to shift since I purchased it used in '12 with 137 hrs on the meter. If I lubricate shift linkage under cab it shifts a little easier but still doesn't shift as easy as gear selector.

Patently curious, undercoating with what and better yet, where?

I sprayed the underside of the hood, underside of the cab, all the shift linkages, inside the rear fenders where there’s metal, around the battery/rad support area and anywhere else that will rust or moving parts that will seize. I’ll reapply to the obvious parts once through the winter, even with some diesel/old oil mix.
We get our truck sprayed yearly with Krown, so last time the truck was done I had the guy fill a few gallon jugs of Krown for me. The crap they put on our roads in the winter is nasty, the German, galvanized body panels on our VW are rusting like they were bare metal in the ocean.
I don’t have a heated shop so washing the tractor in the winter after being on the road is not easy for me to do, when it’s -20, -30 outside. I road travel a lot.
Hopefully the OP can sort out this issue and it’s as simple as the linkages. The WSM is available online for free if you search.

Never heard of Crown nit that I'd use it on a tractor anyway. Anything gooey will attract and retain crud underneath. Not something I'd ever consider doing and I plow snow on the roads out here too.

Whatever blows your dress up I guess.
