Greetings
Ive just acquired a M7040 SU with only 366 hrs on it. Purchased from a local neighbour who didn't use it much in preference to his bigger tractors.
Today was my first proper drive and it almost was my last.
Firstly the parking brake won't hold even on a mild slope. Poniting uphill is worse, and downhill slightly better but very poor compared to my old tractor.
Im on very steep country here.
Second problem which may be related is the rear Right locks up and the Left continues to turn when the running brakes are applied. Stopping distance is very poor.

I do most of my tractor/vehicle work here and familiar with brake adjustment but this tractor is new to me.
I had read there is adjustment for both left and right but can only find the Left turnbuckle.

Im hoping to get up to speed on this model.

Many thanks

There are two turnbuckles for brake adjustment. The one for the left brake pedal is not where you think it would be but rather beside the clutch pedal.
Each pedal is to have 1.6 to 1.8" free travel
Unless you are using brakes for turning best to keep them locked together.
If they are not well adjusted, the parking brake is very weak.
Do you have a loader and 4 x 4?
If so first you need rear ballast, second you should have 4x4 engaged so the front wheels have a braking affect provided by the driveline.

Thanks. Ive no handbook and finding these turnbuckles was a chore.
I'll tackle them tomorrow and hope it improves the parking brake.
Thanks for your help.

Due to parking brake is controlled by locking turning brake pedals down I think Kubota should have spent the small amount of extra $$$$ to put a warning light & buzzer so tractor operator would be aware "parking brake was engaged on a $30,000+ M7040 tractor. I should install a parking brake warning on my M7040 but I rarely engage the parking brake on it.

Dave-Eng‘s point on where the left brake adjustment is is a good point. Take a flashlight or just feel up there while to press the pedal. I think that’s why some people never adjust it. Sort of the same issue with the clutch. So while you are in there, make sure it doesn’t need adjusting.

Before you climb up into the tractor, the left brake turnbuckle is easily seen and adjusted.
I don't think you need a flashlight it is that obvious.
However, easily confused with the clutch adjustment.

You are right Dave. I just did my checks/adjustments last month and had it backward in my mind.
