I’m looking at upgrading to a new LX3310 cab tractor with a LX2963 snowblower. The dealer has listed the remote chute deflector control as BL7522. That part apparently is a “Hyd Chute Deflector w/Electric Selector”. As I will also be having having a 3rd function installed for my grapple, I don’t understand why that system cannot control the chute deflector.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I do not know all that is in the BL7522 kit(cylinder/diverter/hoses/switch & wiring) but since my dealer was also installing the 3rd function he just used the necessary parts from the kit(cylinder & mechanical brackets) and had hoses made to reach the 3rd function connections. It probably would have been a little cheaper if the required parts(cylinder and brackets) had been purchased separately but I did not want to research that - I was given a small box with the unused hoses, diverter and electrical connections.

I'm assuming you will have hydraulic rotation as well as deflection. If so, the diverter will be mounted on the blower and you will only need one set of hoses to the blower. (Of course, you'll also have an electric cable to control the diverter.) No reason you can't run two sets of hoses if you want. Just talk to your dealer and the service guys and explain what you want.

Might be a dumb question on an old thread but has anyone used a linear actuator for the deflector?

do a search for linear actuators for snowblowers on the forum or on google. Lots of information.

Can anyone that has this setup measure to total length of cylinder both retracted and extended?

It is the same cylinder that Kubota uses for the snowblower hitch raise and lower, the same as the Kubota snow plow. I believe that it is a 5" piston. It is quite expensive from Kubota, and you don't need such a large piston to move the chute hood. If you already have the snowblower, you already have the piston that they use, and you can measure yours. I would measure mine, but I am not at home presently. Kubota part # 70001-00871

Yes 7000100871 is the cylinder, it's a 2" x 5" unit and costs $700 CAD to replace, Ouch, I had a seal leaking on my snow blower B2714C quick hitch so got the seal kit $75 and had a shop install the seals for another $120.

It seems hydraulic anything is costly as hell, as I mentioned at the repair shop Kubota parts replacement cylinder price and the counter guy said 700 was a pretty good price!

Could practically hide the cylinder in a coat sleeve it's so small, and i'm still astounded at the cost. But likely to hear from better-versed hydraulics folks here about this, I've never had to repair or replace hydraulic rams before.

Hate to think what breaking a front end loader ram could cost.

No need for Kubota high-priced cylinder for this application. You can use almost anything because the amount of torque necessary to move the chute hood is negligible. A 1/2" piston would be more than adequate.

I may be wrong but if you use a smaller piston cylinder, then you'll need to feather your controls because that cylinder will move rather quickly due to the amount of volume inside the cylinder. A 2" x 5" cylinder would be a 2" ID with a 5" stroke, which would probably be about right. But I know that there are way cheaper cylinders out there than $700 CAD. I am still researching going the linear actuator route.

Here is the actuator I installed on my new blower. Actuator has a 4" stroke. Installed dpdt ctr. off switch on dash to operate and fabbed up mounts etc from misc. junk. Have under $100 in it.

Would you mind sharing your parts list?

No real parts list. Bought the 12-volt linear motor from Amazon. The upright rod holding the wire is just a 3/8" treaded rod with some 3/8" fuel line over it and topped off with a rubber cap that I found. I was going to use straight rod and paint it but I did not have any. It is mounted to a bracket that I welded up from some scrap angle iron that I had. The adapter fittings that are on the ends of the linear motor were also fabbed up from misc. scrap steel that I had. I am sure that there are other ways to connect these. The wire feed was also wire collected over the years while I was in the electrical and HVAC trades. The switch was purchased from a local electronics store. Any double pole double throw spring return center off switch with 10-15 amp rating would work. Find a suitable 12 volt feed (i.e. accessory outlet under dash) and connect to the center two connections on the switch (one 12 volt and the other ground). Connect two outside connections to the feed wires to the motor. Install two short wires from these switch connections diagonally to the connections on the other side of the switch to form a "X" connection across the outside of the switch. On the cable from the tractor to the blower I installed a small flat trailer type plug for disconnecting when removing the blower.
Just could not see the need for a costly hydraulic cylinder hooked up to my third function considering the minimal effort required to do the job. In my opinion Kubota should have an electric option for this.

OK I'll try again, what is the stroke of the piston? It is not used on my setup, looks like it was used on the older setup. My is the 4 point connection(K-connect) No linear actuators or other sidetracks. A flow resistor will slow the chute speed. Yes kubota is crazy expensive so just need the specs. for this cylinder.

I would think that even if you were able to find a short enough cylinder with a 4" to 5" stroke you are still into some fabrication to make it work. Your only option otherwise would be to purchase the OEM Kubota parts.

You are correct, the K Connect Module - LARGE FRAME (LX2941) on this tractor uses two 2" x 4" rams. I was thinking that it was the K Connect Module that uses a single 2" x 5" ram for lifting.

Yep, I now wish I would have borrowed the cylinder off my BX2370 before I traded it in.
