LX2610SU How to set cruise control

Hi, new to the forums here. I just got a new LX2610SU with dealer installed cruise control. I tried to set the cruise control to use for mowing using this sequence.
1. Set engine RPM to have PTO at 540.
2. Accelerate to desired speed with the treadle pedal.
3. Push down on the cruise control lever. (located below the steering wheel, just next to the parking brake lever)

This does not work on my tractor. It will either not engage cruise at all or will cruise very slowly. Usually no cruise at all.

So I called my dealer and they gave me a different sequence.
1. With engine at idle, accelerate with the treadle pedal.
2. Engage cruise control lever.
3. Then use the throttle to set the desired speed.

This works on the tractor, but doesn't make sense to me since I can't know what the tractor speed will be once I throttle up to 540 PTO shaft speed. Is this the way the cruise control is supposed to work or am I missing something?

The obvious thing to make sure is that you're not in 3rd (road) gear off the bat! Then you'd be barely touching the hst pedal to get to speed and the cruise lock teeth mechanism hasn't travelled sufficiently to engage enough teeth.

Could it be that your preferred cutting cruise speed is using too little hst pedal movement in 2nd gear for the cruise mechanism to engage enough lock teeth to hold the hst in that range? I'm assuming that you're mowing in 2nd.

Try this to see if the cruise works:

1. Go to 540 rpm on pto equivalent on engine (2300+ rpm I think, it's under my tractor's 2500 rpm spec working rpm) and then throttle down, disengage the pto, then return throttle to that engine rpm.

2. In first gear, accelerate using hst pedal to max pedal, max 1st gear speed.

3. Depress the cruise lever all the way down and HOLD IT THERE.

4. Release your foot from the hst pedal.

5. NOW release the cruise lever.

It should stay very near the same speed as before the pedal was released, i.e. it's now working. If that exact sequence does not hold the hst pedal position down, try again. I sometimes miss the timing and have to retry while operating the tractor simultaneously.

6. Then try the same sequence at lower hst pedal speeds, same rpm. Should hold close to release speed. Sometimes it's the same speed sometimes a little less.

Now if the cruise is ok without the pto engaged, idle the engine and engage the pto (mower) and return the rpm to 540.

Remaining in 1st gear, at likely max or near max hst pedal, try the cruise while mowing now.

The mechanism is fairly simple to expose and adjust if it's out of whack in 2nd gear operating ranges.

In thinking about this, consider the following: (assuming that the treadle peddle dead stop is properly adjusted)

The peddle will allow maximum ground speed in a given gear range, at the set RPM. So, if you set the cruise control at 1500 RPM and then move the RPM's to 2500 RPM's the ground speed increases accordingly. So, if you are using the dealer's sequence, you would just stop increasing RPM's when desired ground speed is reached.

I agree with you, in that your original sequence seems more correct, and I would think that that is what is called for in the Operator's Manual. Maybe checking the treadle dead stop will correct your issue.

So here is what turned out to be the problem.

the plate with the sawtooth slots was not aligned properly with the bar connected to the throttle. I simply pushed on the plate(toward the tractor) and it bent enough to be in the proper position. I'm now able to work the cruise using my sequence. Thanks for all the help, especially the video!
