quick question on replacing the lower bonnet (wrap around plastic) on a BX 2660 - I can work around the loader but not certain if I need to remove the upper bonnet or even the brush guard to squeeze the new bonnet in place- I dont want to wrestle with it if I should pull off the upper hood which looks a bit time consuming - thanks

Hi-

I have a BX1860, which is similar to your BX2660. I don’t think you’ll have to take the loader off, but you will need to remove the brush guard. You won’t need to remove the upper bonnet, but you will need to use the plastic strap/holder that holds upper bonnet half-way closed. If the upper bonnet is all the way open, you won’t get the lower bonnet past the headlights.

You’ll then want to angle the open end of the lower bonnet slightly down and around the upper bonnet and slide it down and around the engine. It’s not what I’d call easy , but it’s also not hard. I sometimes wonder if Kubota went out of their way on the 60 and 70 series BXs to make this particular aspect a pain.

Hope that helps.

The new LX models have a yellow plastic dip-stick in the back near the vent. Very hard to see the level on that, too. But, I'm still under warranty (and will be for a while to come) so won't dare give Kubota any excuse to void it on me. After it's no longer warrantied, I'll watch a little closer about dyes. However, I challenge the notion that the dye has the same lubricity and viscosity as the oil, especially if it will harden if left open. Not sure I want anything in my tractor that has even a remote possibility to shorten it's life. I'm too old to be rebuilding tractors.

Yep - -bluedunn got it perfectly.

Just had mine off BX2360 this fall for draining cooling system.

Came off/went back on just as he describes.
