Has anyone used Legacy UTF as a substitute for Kubot UDT?

I have an M5030 I'm getting ready for summer and noticed there's no oil on the transmission dipstick. I have a bucket of the Legacy the MF dealer sold me for an old MF I just sold. I need to do a little bush hogging today and just need something to get me by until I can change the transmission oil. I bought the tractor last year from the owners widow and I'm not sure what oil is currently in there.

Take the day off, and go to your local Kubota dealer and purchase new filters and the correct oil. It is obvious that you know nothing about its previous maintenance or lack of maintenance. I never could understand why people will spend thousands of dollars to purchase a used piece of equipment, but don't want to spend anything on new maintenance supplies, so they can start a new maintenance schedule of their own.

So, if I had stopped my previous post after writing, " Has anyone used Legacy UTF as a substitute for Kubot UDT? " would you have still felt compelled to give me your opinion? Don't assume that because I write a little more than the OP question, that the added paragraph is somehow comprehensive in explaining who I am or what my situation is. If money were no object, I would go buy a new tractor. So, have you ever used Legacy UTF? Do you know if it can be substituted for Kubota UDT? That was my question. Not what your opinion is about my maintenance schedule.

I know zip about thecLegacy product but most any UTTO is an acceptable alternative to UDT. SUDT2 is a different formulation and there are only a handful of alternatives.

Your tractor was made before SUDT was even invented and UDT would have been the recommended fluid. You should be fine using any premium UTTO. So post a picture of the label on the Legagy oil and you might get something specific about it.

I'm not sure about this product either.. I'm not sure if you are thinking about just topping it off or draining it and refilling??
I would not want to mix it with whatever might be in there, not knowing for sure that might be.

I know it isn't the best idea to mix, but since it's not a hydro and I don't have any external hydraulics on it and since the manual gives a bunch of oil substitutes for their recommended UDT, I just need to top it up. I won't be able to change the oil for another couple weeks until I can get to town and buy supplies and I really need it today for light operation.

I looked it up. It is a generic UTTO apparently blended and branded for Sparex. They make the usual claims of "suitabilty for use". The physical properties are less than stellar (low viscosity index) and it would not be something I would chose as a service fill but it should be fine as a top off fluid.

Thanks Dan and everyone. It will only be a temporary top off. In fact, now that I think about it, I bought for that purpose on the old MF I had. It leaked like crazy and was going to have to be split, which I couldn't afford at the time, and I had 30 acres of broomsedge I needed to try to get some control over. MF dealer said it should be okay for a top off on the MF. I've done a couple oil changes on the engine, but not on the transmission. I need to get a few acres mowed and my plot tilled, then I can service it. Thanks again.

If you know nothing about tractors and you want to gamble on your new to you used tractor by using an unknown product, go for it. Learn to take suggestions when someone is trying to give you good advice that you might not agree with. If you think that you know everything there is to know, then keep doing what you are doing, and I will be standing by in the wings waiting to see what your next disaster is going to be.
I am more than familiar with hydraulic fluids, and it is obvious that you are not. There have been more than a few lawsuits over tractor fluids that make unsubstantiated claims and have caused damage. I feel responsible to give accurate advice, and you are free to listen to anyone you care to. When it comes to using an unknown product, you are ultimately responsible for your own actions, right or wrong. UTF stands for Universal Tractor Fluid, and it is a misnomer. There is nothing universal about it.

You seem to think you know everything there is to know about me based on a few sentences I wrote, so seems we're even... or did my name have anything to do with your opinion about what I may or may not know? If you were to offer unsolicited advice in a less condescending and assuming manner, I wouldn't have been so put off by your response. You seemed more interested in showing off whatever it is you think you know than actually helping someone. Just because we're on the internet doesn't mean that you aren't talking with a real person on the other side with feelings.

I'm just going to tip my glass to both of them!

I am sure Dusty is/was trying to be most helpful..but as my mother used to say, "best intentions pave the way to hell"...LOL

The written word leaves something missing from what a normal conversation would add...

I would add that I am not sure what a Cheryl is, just as more than most here do not know what a Henro is... ;)
