My L3902 is my first hydrostat tractor. Is it normal for the left & right brakes to not operate equally? Left brake will completely lock that tire; Right brake much less effective. Tech has not had the issue brought up by anyone else before but he thinks it's due to the differential system being on the right side so it has the oil bypass. Is that anyone's experience? Thanks.

That does not sound right to me. In fact it sounds kinda dangerous if you're going 15mph down the road and have to suddenly jam the brakes.

If the L3902 is NOT anything like the L3901 others will be along shortly to put me in my place and you can disregard everything that follows.

If the L3902 is like the L3901 the brake pedal activates the Brake Cam Levers on both the left and right sides and apply pressure on the left and right cam plate and disk brakes causing the differential gear shaft to stop.

Possible problems:
The left free play is to tight
The right play is too loose
Both need adjustment

If the free play are adjusted properly and you still have the same problem then the right brake disk may be worn or the cam plate may be warped, which seem unlikely if you have a new / low hour tractor unless you damaged it somehow.

I’d talk to the service manager instead of the tech. Something’s not right that needs to be addressed. Is the tractor still in warranty?

Tractor is new this late spring. Less than 12 hours so still under warranty.

Again - if the L3902 is like the L3901 - I don't think oil by-pass has anything to do with a mechanical disk brake, the tech doesn't know what he's talking about.

Go up the chain of command, talk to the service manager or the salesman that sold you the tractor.

As others have stated, that’s a dangerous condition. The brakes are either mid-adjusted or there’s something wrong with them. You need to talk to someone other than the clueless tech who thinks it’s acceptable, even if you have to take it to a different dealer.

Did the Tech have a broom which he was leaning on?????????????
The brakes need to be adjusted so they operate equally. It is a very simple, first-day 101 task. They are also an item on the pre-delivery checklist.

Which side the "differential oil bypass" is on would not affect the brakes anyway.:LOL::LOL::LOL:
