so it's not the fuel stop solenoid as I swapped it out, I tested the stop solenoid relay per WSM & it appears to be fine. now I'm wondering if I have some safety sw intermittent ? no rhyme or reason as to when it cuts out, wiggled cabling etc. tested & eliminated seat sw, no error message after stall.

I had a BX2230 that was acting up. Checked the seat switch with the meter and it appeared to be fine- continuity when depressed, not when open. But it continued to occasionally shut it down. Jumpered by the switch for a few days and no problem. Took the switch out and tested again. Found that it broke contact when it was wiggled side to side. $7 for a new seat switch solved the problem.

Lift your seat up. There is a lever arm that is attached to a plastic box, housing a micro switch. If that seat switch fails, like his did, it will shut off your motor. Its called a "dead mans" switch and it is designed to keep engine RPM under idle (off) unless in neutral with the parking brake set (for PTO use). It controls the fuel shutoff valve along with the ignition switch.
The other switch that really drove me crazy was my HST pedal switch. It was way too tight and if the pedal was a little dirty and didn't return to perfect vertical, the same thing happened: Clatter when you tried to start but no turn over. Not sure if you GST has any switches in the linkage but lookie see if there are. You may be able to open up the linkage a tiny bit to prevent this in the future. the Service Tech opened mine up and life is mo-bettuh now.
