My loader works fine but, strange to me, at least, when I lower the FEL the engine bogs down. Going up it stays at idle fine but down is something else. This seems counterintuitive to me since the weight and pressure are being relieved from the system. This is my first Kubota, and this might be common place for this tractor, but I'd like to know if something's amiss or not. Nights are getting darker sooner and the cold weather is coming but I'm happy to go out and troubleshoot until I can't. Thanks.

Which I would do...except there are no quick connects in the whole system. Is that how it should have been done back then? I'm not wanting a trophy tractor, I'm just wanting it properly functional one and would add quick connects if it would solve the problem. Possible corrosion in the return line, then? Wouldn't that affect the up function as well? Thanks.

If your loader is hard plumbed (not removable) then you could possibly have an issue with your valve or a pinched line somewhere.

Your SCUT wasn't designed for an OEM loader so you will need to do some investigating as to what was actually installed. Does your loader have down pressure? Make and model of loader?

Bad lines are what I'm thinking as this wasn't stored well over the past xxx years. I will also take a look at the valve. I know the tractor was purchased, and has, the 1200 Kubota loader. That wasn't original to the tractor?

Lots of L245's with loaders and teh 1200 is the right vintage. At the age of that loader its difficult to know exactly what valve you have. A couple pictures of the valve and the hose/steel line connections between it and tractor would be helpful.

Got home too late tonight to get a photo but the valve is part of bundle 2-3994, per the installation instructions I received with the paperwork (the valve does match the parts diagram) and is a model 25792, 25793, or 25794 (don't know how to tell the difference). I actually have the instructions on how to repair it but, other than the engine seeming to strain when lowering the bucket, the loader valve seems to work fine outside of a small weeping at one lever. I've already replaced two hoses because they were bad but the others are dry, though weathered pretty decently. I was hoping to change the oil and filter at that time but can do it sooner if it might help.

Unfortunately I do not have that documentation. Let's try a simple question - does the valve have both tank and power beyond connections and where on the tractor are they connected?

The line marked "Press" on the pump up front is the feed line into the top of the valve (the hose in need of replacement). I assume the other is the suction line and isn't under pressure because it just has a band clamp at each end (tank and pump). Should I also assume the valve drains down through the filter and back into the tank (see photo #1) and would a clogged filter possibly be causing the engine straining issue?

Crappy photos incoming....
OK - loader has its own pump so no power beyond. That's about as simple as it gets. Just to be sure I have this right UP, CURL and DUMP work OK but DOWN bogs the engine down? Will the loader lift the front wheels off the ground?

The filter would affect all other functions. It looks like the valve has pressure down and float on the-boom. What happens in float?

Sorry for being obtuse but I'm not sure what you mean by float (this is my first real tractor). As for the previous message, yes, all other functions work as they should without issue - up, curl, and dump - but lowering the arms to the ground causes the engine to bog. If I power through that (either by slowly lowering the arms or revving the engine), I am able to lift up the front of the tractor without issue. Additionally, if I leave the bucket off the ground, it does not lose any height over time. Regardless, even with the tractor off, when I try to lower the arms they do not move. It's almost as if some other valve is stuck and won't relieve the pressure. This seems strange to me as I've worked with other tractors where the implement will lower simply due to gravity.

It is very strange and very broken. I am having a hard time finding an explanation for that behavior. The only thing I can come up with is a partial obstruction in the exhaust port on one of the workports.

Float is a fourth position on the boom lever. It lets the bucket "float" freely along the ground. When you push forward on the boom lever you get pressure down on the bucket. If you have float and push harder on the lever there is another position past that. Try that when you get chance.
